Sometimes monitoring the effectiveness of programs can be difficult, but on Saturday we received the most convincing proof ever of the success we’re having with our Alternative Rite-of-Passage ceremonies in Wamba, Kenya!

The women who conduct FGM on young girls are known as “cutters”, and a group of cutters in the Wamba area got together to complain because they have lost their illegal income. They are pleading with the government for economic help. A Samburu news agency picked up the story and posted it on Facebook. What more perfect way to demonstrate the success of our efforts to end FGM in Wamba than to hear local cutters complain about the injustice of their lost income!!??

Eventually I hope we put EVERY Samburu cutter in the county out of business – not just those in the Wamba area!
