In 2017, we took a chance on a young man, MG, that showed incredible potential. With $2,000 from Global Pearls and $1,500 from a partner organization, Shared World Visions, we funded an idea he had to improve education in Cameroon: an app called SchoolFAQs. That platform is now the technology infrastructure behind the Ministry of Education’s national distance learning system – a system created to reach students who cannot afford school fees or who cannot attend school because of the Anglophine Crisis. Currently, SchoolFAQs handles 14.97 million requests per month and powers the Ministry’s entire digital learning program. It is still growing as they work to expand server capacity, broaden coverage across every subject and language subsystem, and deepen their reach into underserved rural areas. As MG says, SchoolFAQs exists because we took a chance on him with $3,500. Without that support, he says, SchoolFAQs may never have made it past the prototype.
SchoolFAQs is a perfect example of why Global Pearls is entrepreneurial in nature – taking strategic risks is what leads to some really amazing achievements!
